With temperatures finally creeping up and spring approaching, it’s time to start preparing your windows for spring and your home for warm weather!
Window Repairs
Here at Complete Window Care in Colorado Springs, we know how important it is to keep up on window repairs. Windows play an important role in regulating the temperature of your home, maintaining security, and keeping your home looking fresh and clean. Since winter can be tough on your windows, we’d like to go over a few tips for getting your windows ready for another beautiful spring in Colorado.
Check Your Windows
The first thing to do is thoroughly check all the windows from inside your house. Look around the edges for gaps, cracks, and chips. Damaged sealants can create air and water leaks, which in turn can lead to high energy bills, mildew growth, and water damage inside your home. If your screens are up, make note of any tears in the center of the screens, and also check around the edges for spots where the wires have pulled away from the frame. The tiniest gaps create opportunities for insects to crawl through, so you’ll want to make sure to have any repairs done before it’s time to start opening your windows to let in warm breezes.
Outside Damage
Once you’ve gone over all your windows from inside, take a walk around the outside of your house and look for the same types of damage. You’re more likely to find problem areas on the exterior, of course, since exposure to the elements accelerates damage. Keep an eye out for chips or cracks on the glass that may have been caused by debris in high winds. Don’t forget to take a look at your doors as well! All of the same issues that affect your windows can affect your doors, and sometimes with more severe consequences. Any damage that could compromise the security of your home, either from severe weather or intruders, should be addressed immediately.
